A Schoolgirl's War - Illustrated Talk
Coxheath Parish Council
School life in Maidstone during WW2
Enjoy a free illustrated talk by Mary Smith featuring two fascinating and recent discoveries that provide a vivid insight into school life during World War II in Maidstone.
One of these was the discovery of an extensive set of tunnels used as underground classrooms, and the other was the discovery of an exquisite set of paintings of wartime schooling created by a young art teacher in Maidstone as the war unfolded.
These paintings, lost for 70 years, show the disrupted schooling, air-raids, doodlebugs and underground lessons experienced by so many children. Together these discoveries provide a unique and enthralling record.
The talk features stunning visual images.
